Future Plan
This is the first time for iGEM teams to introduce bacteria nitric oxide synthase to the research field. Compared with eukaryotes NOS, prokaryotes NOS may share better compatibility in the prokaryotic expression system. Considering the NO as a vital signal molecule in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes, our basic part may have great potential in various applying scenarios, such as therapy, environment cleaning, food industry and so on. Meanwhile, it has been proved that NO has the ability to induce the dispersion of multiple biofilms, indicating that there is a broad implement prospect for our designed bacteria and system.
For now our engineered bacteria is only for the detection of P.aeruginosa biofilm, therefore we are looking for a more common factors that are involved in the bacteria biofilm.(eg: certain ECM protein/ saccharide/ lipid)
Still there is a great developmental space for our project, the most important part maybe test the circuits of C4-HSL-NOS system that have been already constructed. In the near future we will finish this characterization and test this engineered bacteria co-culturing with P.aeruginosa. Meanwhile our engineered bacteria should be labeled with constitutive fluorescence for the clearer observation under laser confocal microscopy. Also, micro-fluid chip could be applied for the stimulation of fluid condition.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there are still a lot of story waiting to be told yet. Thanks to all the team members’ efforts and we deeply hope that our research and achievement could influence and change the world around us.
